Welcome Church Goes Camping!!!

A regular feature of our church diary before Covid was an annual camping weekend with Commission, which is the family of churches we belong to. This event took place each year over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August but has been on hold since 2020 due to Covid.

Although the Commission UK team (which I’m part of) have a real sense of faith and of God’s call to get back to these events again, sadly our plans to run ‘Connect Festival’ in 2022 have – for a whole host of reasons – had to be postponed to 2023. This postponement creates an opportunity for us as a church … so we’ve decided to run our own camping event this summer over that weekend.

Dates for your diary

Please do put August 26th to 29th in your diary! Welcome Church will be going camping together!

We plan to give details of the venue soon, and it’s less than an hour’s drive from Woking. We want to do a final confirmatory site visit before we announce the details and open the booking, which we hope to do in January.

Over the weekend we’ll have a lot of fun with something for everyone. We’ll hire a big marquee where we can eat together, play games together, hang out together and more, and we’ll be looking to include some excellent spiritual content along the way too. So get the date in your diary and let’s get ready to have some fun.

Sunday Evening: Connect Festival Comes Home

Today, in a normal year, many of us would have been heading off to our Commission ‘Westpoint’ Bible weekend. This year it was due to be held at a new venue in Shepton Mallet under a new name: Connect Festival.

Sadly Covid-19 has led to the whole event being cancelled, but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening over the weekend. On Sunday evening (30th August) at 7pm, an hour long event will be streamed for all our Commission churches. The event will include worship, a message from Guy Miller and from Vinu Paul, moments of prayer and more.

As part of the Commission church family we really won’t want to miss it, so do put it in your diaries now. Below is a short video from Simon and Liz Argent from Ascot Life Church to tell us a bit more:

The event will be streaming at 7pm on the Commission YouTube Channel (click here) here and also on the Commission Facebook Page (click here). Enjoy!

Connect Festival: BIG NEWS

As a church we go to a festival each year in August, camping with other churches from our Commission family. We always have a great time with excellent teaching, worship, sports, entertainments, youth work, kids work, fun and games. I love hanging out with people from our own church, and also being with thousands of people from other Commission churches too, both from the UK and other nations.

Sadly, because of the Coronavirus outbreak, this year’s event has been postponed until August 2021.

This week the Commission Office will get in touch with everyone who’s booked to let you know what happens next. If you’ve booked already you will have three choices:

ONE: You can have your money back … but please don’t do that unless you really have to.

TWO: You can donate the cost of your booking to Commission to support the work done all around the world, including amongst the poor in several nations. That could be a good option, especially if you know 2021 is not possible for you, or you just want to be generous at this difficult time.

THREE: You can roll your booking over to 2021. Remember the event is not cancelled – it’s just postponed. I’m sure most will choose this option.

Connect Festival 2021 will be awesome!

Just think what a huge celebration we will have together, having missed this year’s event and having come through this crisis together. Jo and I will be there. I know you really won’t want to miss it!
